Born in a log house in Anchorage, Alaska, as a child Alex became consumed with learning as much as he could about the many techniques and traditions of acoustic blues and roots music. A singer, songwriter and guitarist, he began performing at coffeehouses, bars and festivals in his teens, and after leaving home for the East Coast at the age of 14, he has been featured at venues across the US and South America. Through a fierce dedication to his craft and his 20+ years of experience in the industry, his sound and lyrics convey an authenticity empowered by a lifetime spent living and breathing music. Shifting seamlessly from a Mississippi Delta slide guitar blues to an Otis Redding style Soul ballad he proves to be an “agile guitarist with an educated sensibility for the blues, with a supple vocal style”. -Dorothy Hill, Blues Source
Alex has opened for and played with artists such as Grammy winner Honeyboy Edwards, Michael Doucet (Beausoleil), Canned Heat, Terry Evans (Ry Cooder), Smokin’ Joe Kubek, Bnois King, Tinsley Ellis, Trombone Shorty, and many more. He has worked as a session guitarist and teacher and has performed at festivals and clubs such as the Boston Blues Festival, Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival, The Whisky A Go Go, House Of Blues Hollywood and the Mint in Los Angeles among many others. Along the way, his playing and singing earned him a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he immersed himself in Gospel, R&B, Latin music and Jazz. During his years in Los Angeles, he also recorded the guitar for a popular children’s toy. Although his sound remains deeply rooted in the Blues, Alex also draws on elements from a diverse array of styles that have shaped him during his time living in the US and Colombia. During the pandemic Alex relocated to Portland, Oregon with his wife and young daughter and began working on new material. The resulting songs are proving to be his best work yet.
"Alex’s husky vocals add an additional degree of authenticity to his already established, exceptional, true to form technique on both slide guitar and picking"
-Malcolm Kennedy, Washington Blues Society
